Nigeria's distribution network is split between eleven companies, each with an exclusive franchise area. You cannot choose yours — it is determined by where the building is.

- Abuja (AEDC) — FCT, Niger, Kogi, Nasarawa
- Benin (BEDC) — Edo, Delta, Ondo, Ekiti
- Eko (EKEDC) — Lagos South, Lekki, Victoria Island, Ajah, Apapa
- Enugu (EEDC) — the five South East states
- Ibadan (IBEDC) — Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Kwara
- Ikeja (IKEDC) — Lagos North, Ikeja, Ikorodu, Abule-Egba
- Jos (JED) — Plateau, Bauchi, Benue, Gombe
- Kaduna (KAEDCO) — Kaduna, Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara
- Kano (KEDCO) — Kano, Jigawa, Katsina
- Port Harcourt (PHED) — Rivers, Bayelsa, Cross River, Akwa Ibom
- Yola (YEDC) — Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Yobe
Lagos is split — and this catches people out
Lagos has two DISCOs. Broadly, Eko serves the south and the island; Ikeja serves the north and mainland. Selecting the wrong one is the single most common reason a valid Lagos meter number fails validation. If your meter will not validate, try the other Lagos DISCO before assuming the number is wrong.
When validation fails
- Re-read the meter number off the meter itself.
- Confirm the DISCO. Check an old bill if you are unsure.
- Check the meter type — prepaid and postpaid use different identifiers.
- Check DISCO Status. The provider may be down rather than your number wrong.
